  • More people means higher food prices, Cargill exec says
Food output must increase 70% by 2050 to feed an expected world population of 9 billion, according to the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization. "You don't have to be a reviving bull on commodities to believe that the era, which went from the '50s, '60s to '70s and early '80s, of ever-decreasing food prices in real terms has probably come to an end," said Cargill Vice Chairman Paul Conway. • Smaller plates don't reduce food intake, study says
A study in the Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics revealed no significant difference in energy intake between overweight or obese women and normal-weight women who used smaller and larger plates at different meals when they were instructed to eat until they were satisfied. Heavier women, however, reported lower levels of hunger before the meal and satiety after the meal compared with normal-weight women, despite a similar consumption level. The findings suggest overweight or obese individuals might be less likely to sense hunger and fullness, researchers said.
