- Morrisons cites strong sales last spring for Q1 drop
UK grocery chain Morrisons reported a 1% drop in same-store sales for the first quarter and blamed much of the decline on the comparison to unusually strong sales during the same period last year. Some analysts worry that Morrisons, which doesn't sell online and operates only a handful of smaller convenience stores, may be losing market share to larger rivals Tesco and Asda. The French high court partially overturned a lower court's 2008 verdict against eBay in a case brought by LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, which accused the online marketplace of selling counterfeit goods. The high court ruled that the appeals court had jurisdiction to impose fines and block sales of certain items on eBay's sites in France and the UK, but not the US. - High rents drive more Hong Kong designers online
New designer brands and young labels are eschewing the ultra-high retail space rents in Hong Kong and opting to sell their looks online. Some launch their own online shops and others carve out space on multi-brand platforms including ShopdesCreateurs.com, BuyMeDesign.com, and Zeuz.com.hk and Taobao.com. - Service lets Canadian consumer save on shipping fees
Online retailer Sierra Trading Post started promoting Kinek, a service that lets online shoppers have their packages delivered to a designated spot in the US for pickup, after noticing that many orders from Canadian customers were going to the same address. Using Kinek's service, Canadian shoppers enjoy lower US shipping rates and fees by picking up the packages in person, says Sierra marketing manager Minden Fox. About 20 children's clothing shops line a busy corridor at Dubai Mall, and designer brands including Lovely Lace Baby, Dior Kids and Gucci Kids are poised to open as parents in the market increasingly adorn their offspring in high-end fashions.
