P&G repackages Pods to discourage accidental eating
Procter & Gamble has taken a further step to prevent children from eating its Tide Pods laundry detergent, making its packaging opaque to avoid a "candy bowl" look. The move comes as part of the company's "Safe Home" campaign that promotes keeping all detergent out of sight and reach of children. Customer loyalty preserves regional grocery brands
Regional supermarkets have held ground against behemoths such as Wal-Mart Stores because customers still prefer a local feel and a less standardized experience, Kroger CEO David Dillon says. Even as large grocers buy up smaller chains, they often leave the regional brand intact to maintain customer loyalty, as Kroger plans to do with its purchase of Harris Teeter Supermarkets. House passes farm bill after cutting out food stamp money
The House has adopted a farm bill, voting 216-208, after eliminating hundreds of billions of dollars for the food stamp program to win the backing of conservative legislators. The measure would provide about $195 billion of subsidies to farmers during the next decade. If the House and the Senate fail to agree on funding food stamps, the money could be restored through the normal appropriations process.
