Nestle has adopted new animal welfare standards, requiring its 7,300 international suppliers to give animals more room, to diminish animals' pain and to invite visits by independent auditors. Kraft Foods plans to invest $100 million to add a product line and upgrade technology at a Missouri cheese production facility, with the support and partnership of the Springfield Chamber of Commerce, the city and county governments and city utilities, Plant Manager Todd Sherman said. Family Dollar turns down Dollar General's $9B offer
Family Dollar Stores has rejected a $9 billion cash buyout bid by rival Dollar General and continues to support the $8.5 billion cash and stock deal with Dollar Tree that was reached last month, Family Dollar said Thursday. Dollar General had said it would sell 700 of its stores in the deal to appease regulators, but Family Dollar's board said it still had anti-trust concerns about the larger offer. Researchers: Chocolate could offer protection from diabetes
Consuming robust amounts of flavonoids found in chocolate, berries and tea could be the key to staving off type 2 diabetes, according to a new study from the University of East Anglia and King's College London.
