Buyosphere is a cookie-free e-commerce startup that is focused on a consumer-to-business communication model that allows consumers to create their own "data packages" and choose which retailers and other companies they'll share that information with, says founder Tara Hunt. "We build tools on top of your data for your own use -- analytics, organization, notification, etc. -- and in the future (and when the Do Not Track legislation heats up), we'll be there to offer retailers a way to receive these personal data packages in a way that consumers control 100%." - As a brand's fan base grows, does engagement automatically wane?
Brands are struggling to maintain engagement with their fans as they scale up their social presence, a Visibli report suggests. In many cases, the report found, brand pages with more fans actually received fewer "likes" per post than those with far fewer fans. One solution might be for brands to optimize content-posting schedules to leverage their user bases more effectively, the report argues. eMarketer (5/9) - Location data proves a double-edged sword
Companies from insurance providers to mall operators are testing new ways to use location data gleaned from mobile devices to track customer behaviors and target deals and promotions to their preferences. Tracking capabilities in mobile phones are required under the Federal Communications Commission's enhanced 911 rules, but as yet there are no laws that set limits on how companies can use the information. An investor group that includes Softbank Group and Goldman Sachs valued flash-fashion site Gilt Groupe at $1 billion and agreed to invest $138 million in the company, which has yet to turn a profit after more than three years in business. Due to inflated costs associated with hidden swipe fees, consumers pay more at the doctor's office, more at restaurants, more at grocery stores -- more everywhere they shop, says NRF General Counsel Mallory Duncan in a recent video on swipe fees. Duncan explains how current swipe fees account for $2 out of every $100 American spend, or $427 per household each year. Federal legislation enacted last year could reduce these fees -- but the fight isn't over yet. Watch the video. SmartQuote | | | | | A good question is never answered.
