TreeHouse looks to compete with private-label natural, organic brands
TreeHouse Foods plans to expand its organic and natural offerings in an effort to compete with private label brands such as Kroger's Simple Truth and Simple Truth Organic lines by focusing "internally on reformulations and new products," TreeHouse's Chief Financial Officer Dennis Riordan said. Currently, less than 10% of company's products fall into the natural and organic market, but it is "well-positioned to be a leader" within the segment, Riordan said. Chia Co. aims to revolutionize breakfast offerings
Manhattan-based Chia Co. has created a line of breakfast items formulated with chia seeds. The Chia Pod products, including oatmeal and muesli, are available in eight flavors. Company founder John Foss attributes Chia Co.'s fast growth to its focus on bringing the chia seeds directly from farmers to consumers, which has allowed the company to reach $100 million in revenue over 12 years.
