  • Quarterly earnings growth helps boost Brazilian retailers
Positive first-quarter earnings from Hering and Lojas Renner helped Brazilian retailers rally in Sao Paulo trading. The results boosted optimism that Brazil's retail industry will continue to grow despite efforts by the government to curtail inflation. "It looks like the first quarter wasn't as bad as expected for the industry," said Caue Pinheiro, an analyst at SLW Corretora. "There is still concern about how higher interest rates and slower economic growth will affect those companies, but so far they seem to have overcome these obstacles." Bloomberg (29 Apr.) • Sharing the SmartQuote
Readers may have noticed a change to the format of our SmartQuotes recently. We've added our "share to social" functionality to them, so that readers can easily share their favorite quotes with their contacts on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and via e-mail.

You may be wondering, why'd this take so long? Well, until recently, because of the way that many of our publications were constructed, we were not able to include the SmartQuote in our share-to-social technology. After significant development work, we're happy to make this announcement.

    So share away!
