  • IKEA's empire continues to expand around the world
Critics of IKEA said the Swedish furniture giant would never last in the UK and elsewhere as they scrutinised everything from the retailer's store layouts to its products that come in flat-pack boxes and require self-assembly. IKEA, however, has proved to be popular as well as successful as it continues to expand across the globe. IKEA's universe includes Europe, the US, Asia and, most recently, South America. "We've set ourselves the target of being the best general retailer in the market. We see this as a perfect fit for ASDA. We want to offer our customers value and to save them money," Gara said. • Online card fraud declines for first time since 2007
The UK Cards Association reported a 36% drop in online card fraud in the first six months of this year. Increased awareness by consumers about the need to use anti-virus software to protect consumers and use of fraud detection software by banks were cited as contributing to the decline. However, the association warned that over the past five years, fraud losses have been up and down, so this recent drop may not be the beginning of a significant trend. InternetRetailing.net (08 Oct.)
