Former president Bill Clinton delivered a keynote address entitled “Embracing Our Common Humanity” to an overflow crowd Monday morning at NRF’s 101st Annual Convention & EXPO. Speaking on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, he said there remains a strong connection between social opportunity and economic opportunity. Read more here.

In a session entitled “Customer Loyalty is Not a Tactic But a Way of Doing Business: An Inside Look at Macy’s Holistic Customer Journey,” Macys CMO Peter Sachse got straight to the point. Company research shows that “in any given year, 70 percent of the households in the U.S. do business with Macy’s. We don’t need new customers. We need to keep the ones we have and get more out of them.” Read how Macy’s is doing that here.

During “Innovation in Store Design, Resource Design and Technology Attracts New Customers,” Taberna Retail’s Jim Crawford, executive director of the Global Retail Executive Council, said retailers “need to redefine that experience as it relates to all the touchpoints of the shopping experience.
