In a Harris Poll, 59% of respondents expressed cynicism about organic food, saying the label is only an excuse to charge higher prices. Home cooks warm to sauces with ethnic flavors
Home cooks interested in global flavors are turning to store-bought sauces with ethnic flavors, according to Mintel. Consumers tend to favor fresh products that allow them to customize their meals and lend the feeling of scratch-cooking. "There's a perception that if it's in the chiller cabinet, it's fresh and healthier. As consumers migrate from more ambient and frozen products into fresh products, fresh cooking sauces and pasta sauces can grow particularly well," said Minetl analyst David Turner.
