After seeking higher fares several times since 2010, airlines may "feel like they've wrung about as much coin out of the consumers as they can," said Rick Seaney of FareCompare.com. George Hobica of Airfarewatchdog.com says, however, that the move is simply a reflection of the fact that schools are starting their semesters earlier than they did in the past. App Update
  • Reviewer looks at smartphone airport applications
Kit Eaton has reviewed three smartphone applications designed to help travelers navigate airports and pass time between connections. The $7 iFly Pro, available on Android and Apple's iOS, is notable for its simple interface and breadth of information; however the quality of that information is not consistent across all airports, Eaton says. The free GateGuru, also available on Android and iOS, offers crowdsourced reviews of airport services and a guide for check-in and security wait times. Airport Maps, which is free on iOS, provides airport maps that are often more detailed than the maps issued by other apps.
