Danone to buy 40% stake in Kenyan dairy company
Danone will purchase a 40% stake in Kenya's Brookside Dairy Limited, marking the French company's entrance into one of the largest milk markets in Africa. Danone is expanding into new markets to help offset slow growth in Europe and China. Danone currently earns 7% of its sales in Africa, where the company has invested more than $1.35 billion over the last two years. Ferrero acquires Oltan hazelnut company
Ferrero, maker of Nutella, has purchased Oltan, one of the largest hazelnut producers and marketers in the world. Turkey-based Oltan has five production plants with revenues of more than $500 million, and the deal is subject to regulatory approval. Hazelnuts are the key ingredient in both Nutella and Ferrero Rocher chocolates. Reuters (7/16)
