  • Questions arise about space in Europe for retailers
CB Richard Ellis research shows that 1.9 million square metres of new space in European shopping centres was built in 2010. That represents a 36% drop from 2009, which was down 30% from the previous year. Analysts are split over whether there is enough retail space to satisfy demand, particularly as US retailers aim to expand past their domestic market. "A shortage of new shopping centers being built in Europe restricted the expansion plans of retailers in 2010," according to CBRE. The Wall Street Journal (tiered subscription model) (13 Jul.)
