In a survey from the Beef Checkoff Program, 18% of consumers say they know the correct temperature for cooking ground beef safely. That number is up from 13% in 2007. A U.K. company is looking to launch a $625 million pilot project that would connect food distributors in a London suburb to schools and other buildings through an interconnected series of tubes -- a "physical Internet" -- that could deliver products underground at speeds up to 60 mph. The company, called Foodtubes, says the project has the potential to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 8%. Analysis shows that spending on spinach, peanut butter, beef and eggs returned to normal levels after recalls, though the period varied from more than a year to a couple of weeks.
