Sales at the beginning of December exceeded those from a year ago, 67% of retailers said, while 11% said sales were lower. The poll results, from the Confederation of British Industry, were surprising as retailers were questioned during bad weather, which disrupted supply chains and kept some people away from stores. The CBI survey has shown six straight months of higher sales, but retailers expect growth to slow when the value-added tax increases in January. McDonald's operates more than 1,100 restaurants in China and is planning to add 175 to 200 in the next year.
