PepsiCo is launching Tropolis, a pureed fruit product sold in pouches that is being positioned as a snack rather than a drink. Symex Holdings, a detergent maker based in Australia, will buy from Sara Lee its White King and Janola businesses, which make bleach and other cleaning products sold in New Zealand and Australia. The sale is part of Sara Lee's effort to shed brands not related to food and drinks, which includes recent sales of its insecticide business and Hanes underwear brand. - Cold weather chills Florida alcohol sales
Sales of alcoholic drinks in Florida, already down about 10% because of the recession, are falling even more because of unseasonably cold weather. "People drink less when it's real cold like this," said Ron Chabot of Carroll Distributing. One bright spot is increased sales of craft beers for the holidays, he said.
