Global retail industry news | | - Australian retail sales rise 1.1% in April
Retail sales in Australia exceeded economists' expectations by increasing 1.1% in April to a seasonally adjusted A$20.74 billion, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics. The rebound is expected to ease concerns about Australia's economy. "I suspect that the five-day long weekend (over Easter) did exacerbate sales," said Annette Beacher, head of Asia-Pacific research at TD Securities. "It does necessarily raise the risk that we could see a correction next month, but nevertheless it is a very strong start to the June quarter."
