Brand loyalty has increased in 45 of 100 categories of consumer packaged goods, according to a report from SymphonyIRI Group. "True loyalty can survive even prolonged economic upheaval," said SymphonyIRI Times & Trends' editor. The Agriculture Department has changed the rules to include a ban on six relatively rare E. coli strains in beef sold in the U.S., along with the common strain responsible for several illness outbreaks. The agency says the ban is needed because people often don't cook beef thoroughly enough to kill the bacteria. Opponents in the meat industry say the ban isn't necessary and will raise beef prices.
