Victoria's Secret and other major foreign retail brands have been entering Canada, seeking prime retail real estate and eager consumers. Pick n Pay Stores, a major South African retailer, said that if Australia's competition regulator fails to approve its sale of its Franklin retail business there to Metcash Trading, it will consider selling the business by tender. - Executive: Spending review could help UK retail market
Geoff Cooper, CEO of Travis Perkins, said the Comprehensive Spending Review will help consumers "come to terms" with the government's spending cuts and could bolster the retail market in the UK. "I think since the election people have been second-guessing the spending cuts," Cooper said. "It has been difficult to open a newspaper without hearing about them. We need to get it [the review] out so people can come to terms with it and get on with their lives." Levi Strauss & Co said its new Denizen brand had launched 20 new stores in China by the end of September and is aiming for more than 1,000 stores in the next few years. Dickson Chu, general manager of Denizen in China, said the company will focus on Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang. Levi's developed the Denizen brand to target 18- to 29-year-old consumers.
