- Google is bullish on display, mobile, but search is big moneymaker
Google, based on its third-quarter results, is projecting annual sales of $30 billion, including $2.5 billion in display ads and $1 billion for mobile. Sales in the third quarter were up 23% and profits increased 32%. Although the search giant touted its progress in display and mobile, those segments will not become significant to its bottom line until 2012, according to Jordan Rohan, a managing director for Internet and digital media research at Stifel Nicolaus. PayPal said it plans to launch a mobile version of its Express Checkout system by the end of the month, allowing consumers shopping from their smartphones to pay for their purchases via PayPal. Amazon has cut the amount it requires Canadian shoppers to buy in order to qualify for free shipping from $39 to $25, the first such reduction since 2003.
