- UK retailers develop own-brand products, enhance websites
British retailers are driving profit by concentrating on their higher-margin, own-brand products and improving their websites as they face a difficult trading environment in 2011, according to Deloitte. Online is "an absolute essential priority now as opposed to before when it was seen as something that was an emerging thing, not high on the list", said Ian Geddes, head retail partner at Deloitte. He also said stores are working on improving and coordinating their multichannel options. Aeon, a retail giant based in Japan, expects its home market to stagnate while growth surges in China and Southeast Asia. Aeon plans to tap into the growth markets by almost tripling its investment in foreign markets over the next few years.
