- Leclerc strives to overtake its French rival Carrefour
Leclerc, France's No. 2 mass market retailer, is working to take over the country's top spot, currently held by Carrefour, according to CEO Michel-Edouard Leclerc. "In the short-term, we're expecting an 18 percent market share in 2012, compared with 17.5 percent this year," Leclerc told Le Monde. - Analysts expect Q3 was tough for Brazilian retailers
A survey of analysts found that retailers and consumer goods companies in Brazil likely suffered their worst results in 18 months in the third quarter. The analysts cited Brazil's economic slowdown and deteriorating consumer confidence. "In the second quarter we had some signs of deterioration in retailers' results, and the third quarter marks the first time in a while that we are expecting more negative than positive results in the sector," according to BTG Pactual analysts. Spreadshirt.com, an apparel customization retailer based in Germany, has increased its U.S. sales by 90% this year, according to Philip Rooke, head of Spreadshirt Manufacturing Deutschland. Free shipping offers, among other holiday promotions from online retailers, will abound this holiday season, according to Shop.org's eHoliday survey. Additionally, nearly seven in 10 retailers say they expect their company's online sales to grow at least 15% or more compared to last holiday season.
