Fawaz Abdulaziz Alhokair, a retailer based in Saudi Arabia, is planning to expand both at home and abroad over the next couple of years. The retailer, which has 1,300 outlets around the world, expects demand in Saudi Arabia to remain robust, according to its leading executive. "The Saudi market has not been affected by the crisis in the past and we don't expect to be affected," said Abdulmajeed Alhokair. "We don't expect a great effect in other countries either." Retail Group Gulf, one of the largest retailers in Saudi Arabia, is exiting Dubai, citing rising rents in leading shopping malls. The company has closed dozens of shops in Dubai and sold many of its franchise agreements. "Basically, given the recent trading over the last few years, the decision was made collectively by the shareholders to exit the market as the leases come to expiry," said Simon Marshall, CEO at Fawaz Alhokair, which has a majority stake in Retail Group Gulf.
