Steven P. Jobs, the co-founder of Apple Inc., helped pioneer personal computing and then went on to lead a transformation in the way consumers experience music, movies and mobile communications. He died Wednesday at the age of 56. "Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being," Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a letter to employees. "We will honor his memory by dedicating ourselves to continuing the work he loved so much." Calvin McDonald became chief executive officer at Sears Canada about three months ago and started his tenure by sending an internal memo saying changes are needed to address the company's "identity crisis" and improve its outlook. "In a time-starved culture, our customers shouldn't have to hunt for what they need," he said in the memo. "Our stores are too difficult to shop. We have inconsistent execution and too much clutter. Aeon, the second-largest retailer in Japan, said quarterly profit was up due to strong sales of food and other household staples following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami. "When customers see one price one day and that price slashed by 50 per cent the next day, it increases their distrust in retailers and their pricing," Russo said.
