    Jordan Silbert says he didn't like the sticky feeling on his teeth after drinking a gin and tonic, so he began researching ingredients and realized that a key ingredient in tonic -- quinine from the Peruvian cinchona tree -- was replaced by a synthetic during World War II. After buying some cinchona bark online and experimenting with recipes, Silbert paid $500 to produce 200 cases of Q Tonic at a bottling plant in Massachusetts. A year later his tonic is found in 3,000 outlets, but he says "the goal is for every place serving Grey Goose or Tanqueray to have a good tonic to go with it."   • Smithfield videos respond to concern about hog farms
    Less than three months after undercover video at a Smithfield Foods hog farm prompted animal-cruelty concerns, the company is releasing its own videos, narrated by animal-welfare researcher Temple Grandin, to "let people see firsthand how we put our commitment to product quality, food safety and animal care."
