- Barnes & Noble launches its self-publishing platform
Barnes & Noble said this week that it has gone live with Pubit, its platform that allows self-published authors and independent publishing houses to sell digital versions of their works on the bookstore's websites. Amazon.com reportedly is planning to acquire BuyVip, a Spanish online retailer that offers overstock items from companies such as Louis Vuitton and Dolce & Gabbana at discount, for about €70 million, a source says. Users not only view ads "as part of online life," they see them as "valued" if they are "relevant" to their interests, according to a study by Data & Management Counsel presented at an Advertising Week session. The study found 67% of users valued targeted ads, while significant majorities approved of banners with photos and text ads that arise in search.
