 - Facebook backs away from Credits
Facebook is stepping away from its Credits payment system to allow consumers to use currencies of their choice to buy virtual goods and applications. Facebook had hoped that game developers in particular would adopt Credits as the standard currency. Instead, developers tended to require conversion into currencies specific to each game. The network will allow other currencies to be used later this year and will end the Credits program entirely by the end of 2012. Spotify has joined Pandora, Slacker and Songza in offering its music service for free on iPhones and iPads, rather than the $10 a month it had been charging to use the music app. Already boasting 3 million paid subscribers, Spotify will deploy an audio ad-supported "freemium" mobile model and entice listeners to upgrade to the paid, commercial-free version in which songs can be chosen at will.
