 - Vanilla is most popular ice cream; frozen-yogurt demand climbs
A survey by the International Ice Cream Association found that vanilla is the top choice for flavor and that demand is surging again for frozen yogurt. The survey also found that premium ice cream is the most popular option. The ice-cream industry, which sold 1.53 billion gallons of frozen dessert last year, generated $10 billion in revenue in 2010. Candy-maker Mars gave visitors to the Cannes Lions festival a sneak peek at its upcoming Twix ad campaign, which creates a comic story of two dueling Victorian inventors who finally go their separate ways and compete for customers with identical candy bars. Kroger expects to save more than $1.5 million annually by using stretch-film overwrapper Energy Smart Wrapper. Energy-conservation savings topped 75% during testing last year, according to Kroger, which has reduced energy use by more than 30% since 2000. The grocer partnered with manufacturer Heat Seal for three years to create Energy Smart Wrapper. "We have enjoyed the opportunity to collaborate with Kroger on this innovative new technology," Heat Seal President and CEO Ron Zieske said.
