New Media & Technology | | | | - How to improve your social marketing efforts
Brand marketers increasingly have to spend on social media ads, but there are also some "cheap tricks" that can help create more effective social marketing, starting with defining and tracking the benchmarks that work for you, writes BLiNQ's chief strategist David Rollo. "Leveraging your own social data will boost your strategy and teach you a lot about how customers interact with your brand." iMedia Connection (5/14) - India, China, Brazil emerging as world's mobile capitals
Brazil, India and China are about to take the global lead in mobile advertising, reaching $6 billion by 2016, according to a Yankee Group study. In contrast, U.S. spending is expected to hit $3 billion in the same time frame. The difference is the ubiquity of mobile platforms compared to all others in emerging markets, explains Yankee Group analyst Jason Armitage, with mobile making up more than half of all digital platforms in places such as India and only about 11% in the U.S. by 2016. A few Internet companies are in the midst of an unprecedented buying spree across Silicon Valley, with merger and acquisition activity at Facebook, Zynga and Groupon being double what it was a year ago, according to Dealogic. The trend is at least partly fueled by an influx of recent or expected initial public offering cash that has been raising the stakes for technology startups and entrepreneurs looking to cash in on their ideas, and, according to industry experts, can offer insight into the strategy of companies, like Facebook, that are tight-lipped about future plans. Facebook is telling advertisers what they're doing wrong in advance of an initial public offering that will rely on their patronage and success at advertising on the social network. A study of advertising best practices distills good advertising on Facebook to six elements and, rating those, creates a predictive model of success. Among Facebook's findings: Brands have not mastered the art of creating a focal point in social media ads, but ads that reward viewers in some way tend to be more successful.
