- Stylish men add to Burberry's bottom line last year
Burberry credited men for much of its 24% jump in sales in the year ended March 31, saying new initiatives including tailoring services spurred an increase in menswear sales. Additionally, sales of non-clothing items including leather goods and soft accessories to men rose more than 50%; men now account for nearly one-quarter of the luxury retailer's sales, the company said. Investment firms Silver Lake and Partners Group have sealed a deal to acquire tax-free shopping business Global Blue from Equistone in a deal valued at $1.3 billion. France's Carrefour has installed new chief executive officer Georges Plassat four weeks ahead of schedule, speeding up the transition as the retailer moves forward with a strategy to reverse slumping sales at its hypermarkets in Europe, China and Brazil. Plassat was named as new CEO in January, and has worked as COO alongside retiring chief Lars Olofsson since the beginning of April.  - Uniqlo taps top tennis star as brand ambassador
Uniqlo has signed top male tennis star Novak Djokovic to a five-year deal that makes him the official ambassador for the Japanese fast-fashion brand. Under the deal, Djokovic will wear the retailer's fashions on and off the court, starting at the French Open on Sunday. Retail sales via social media channels are on track to double to £3.3 billion in the UK in the next five years, and nearly three-quarters of 25- to 34-year-olds will be involved in s-commerce by 2021, according to Barclays.
