  • German aims to reinvent shopping for mobile era
Cyriac Roeding said he realized in 1994 that mobile phones would be the "next big thing." While it would take more than a decade for the idea to germinate, the seed had been planted. "Conversion rates in the physical world are so much better than online -- between 0.5% to 3% in the virtual world, and between 20% to 95% in the real world. So if foot traffic is so important, then why hasn't anyone rewarded people for visiting stores? The answer is simple: It's because nobody knows you came through the door," he said.
