- Kobo to start offering e-books in Germany
Kobo's online e-book store in Germany will offer about 80,000 titles with the Kobo e-reader sold at a large consumer electronics retailer, according to CEO Michael Serbinis. Toronto-based Kobo, which is owned by Indigo Books & Music and Borders Group, will then start offering local-language e-books in France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands. Carrefour, the France-based retailing giant, said it expects first-half operating income to be roughly €760 million, a 23% drop which the company is largely attributing to its domestic market. South Korea's Lotte Department Store is planning to bolster its presence in Indonesia by opening four department stores outside Jakarta. The retailer is aiming to capitalise on Indonesia's expanding economy, according to a senior executive. "With a population of more than 200 million and high economic growth, Indonesia is a large retail market," said Suh Chang-suk, president of Lotte Department Store Indonesia.
