Chains including Kroger, Cub Foods and Pathmark encourage customers to buy products in a larger quantity using discounts that emphasize multiple purchases, such as three cans of Bush's baked beans for $5 or 10 packs of Kroger gummy bears for $10. Customers typically don't have to buy the number suggested to get the discount, but they often do anyway. Most Americans can name two or three causes close to their hearts, but only 37% of consumers bought products to support causes in the past year, largely because their skepticism kicks in when the products and the causes they're promoting don't match up, according to a new survey from MSLGROUP.
