- H&M prepares to roll out Versace apparel and accessories
Hennes & Mauritz is poised to start selling floor-length gowns, fluorescent micro-minis and other apparel and accessories designed by Gianni Versace. The Versace for H&M line will provide "global visibility" for the Italian fashion label, which is aiming for $700 million in sales by 2014, according to CEO Gian Giacomo Ferraris. Blue Capital now owns more than 16% of the capital of Carrefour and more than 22% of the voting rights in the French retailer, according to the stock market regulator AMF. However, the alliance does not plan to gain control of the retailer. - Fast Retailing maintains Uniqlo sales target in Japan, CEO says
Tadashi Yanai, chairman and chief executive officer at Fast Retailing, said that the company will maintain its sales target for Uniqlo in Japan despite getting off to a weak start to its fiscal year. "We tightened our product offerings too much and it backfired in the first-half of the season," Yanai said. "I think since there weren't any new products, especially at the start of the season, (customers) thought there wasn't really any reason to come to Uniqlo." Seiichi Chiba, chief financial officer at Japanese retailer Aeon, said that the opportunity to expand is "too great" to pass up. The company is accelerating its expansion plans as the yen's increase bolsters its purchasing power. "One merit of a strong yen is that it has allowed us to accelerate our investments overseas and bring forward our store openings," Chiba said.
