Online marketer and tech fan Jon Barocas was an early fan of QR codes, but says his interest waned over time as he identified some of the reasons consumers aren't using them more. Humans are visual animals, he writes, which means we're much more likely to adopt newer technologies like mobile visual search, which involves photographing actual products rather than scanning the less visually appealing codes. - Mobile payment loyalty service adds 4 cities
A loyalty program that encourages consumers to use their smartphones for payments is doubling the number of cities in which it's available. LevelUp is launching in Atlanta, Chicago, San Diego and Seattle, expanding from Boston, New York, Philadelphia and San Francisco.
