Coca-Cola and PepsiCo said they have directed suppliers of caramel coloring to reduce levels of 4-methylimidazole, responding to a new California requirement of cancer warning labels on beverages containing a certain level of carcinogens.  - Study sees widespread use of potentially harmful chemicals
A study of conventional products and products touted as "safer," including ones from Seventh Generation and Aubrey Organics, found the majority contained trace amounts of potentially harmful chemicals not listed on the labels. Martin Wolf, director of product sustainability at Seventh Generation, said the company does not use the chemicals found in three products. "There are so many dirty chemicals in this world that they're finding their way into everything," he said.
