Sears stores and a network of direct-delivery centers are playing a key role in the retailer's ongoing efforts to fulfill promises of speedy delivery to online shoppers, says senior vice president Raj Penkar. About 90% of big-ticket items purchased online are delivered the next day, he says, and smaller orders are typically fulfilled via the closest store that can deliver. - Report: Rising retail turnover raises hopes
Employee turnover at 54 major U.S. retail chains including OfficeMax, Petco and Limited Brands rose to 18% last month, up from 10% last October, according to Hay Group. Economists see turnover as a sign that workers are feeling confident enough in the economy to make a move. The U.S. retail industry employs about 14.5 million people, according to NRF data.
