  • 8 m-commerce traps merchants can avoid
Retailers can avoid many pitfalls in their rush to establish m-commerce by looking back at early social media mistakes, including assuming their customer bases are up-to-date on the latest tech, not building established branding successes into new efforts and not making content informative and fun. "Retailers and marketers need to take the time to really think about what their role is in mobile, not just believing they have to get on there by any means necessary because that's what others are doing," said Shop.org's Larry Joseloff. • Experts: Australian retailers not capitalizing on online sales
Analysts and online retail professionals say Australia's retailers face challenges that prevent them from capitalizing on the consumer shift toward increased online shopping. An online survey by Forrester found that retailers struggled to recruit and retain skilled e-commerce employees. "There definitely is a shortage of e-commerce experts in Australia," said Daniel Feiler, head of communications at eBay Australia. "While the e-commerce sector overseas has been steadily growing and getting better only a few players here have invested in it." • PayPal says debit-fee cap doesn't apply to its company model
PayPal plans to argue to the Federal Reserve that a cap on fees for debit card transactions passed by Congress last year shouldn't apply to its online payment service because the company isn't a payment-card network. The Fed expects to keep debit card interchange fees between 7 cents and 12 cents per transaction. PayPal typically charges merchants 30 cents, plus 1.9% to 2.9% of the purchase price.
