Three former Zellers stores in Calgary will re-open as Target stores in spring 2013, after six to nine months of renovation expected to cost between $10 million and $11 million per store, the company said Thursday. UK bookstore chain Waterstones said it would stop using unpaid workers under a government-created Work Experience program that requires unemployed adults to work at area businesses in exchange for part of their unemployment benefits. Sales of holiday gifts in China hit $122 million last year, with 60% of the purchases coming in the two months leading up to the annual Lunar New Year celebration, according to the China Gift Industry Research Institute. - Online toy seller to cut costs with brick-and-mortar store
UK toy retailer wheniwasakid.co.uk has sold exclusively online since launching five years ago, but now owner Paul Warner plans to open a brick-and-mortar high street location he says will allow him to both raise the brand's profile and boost profits. Dropping the pick-and-pack service he was using to ship products and using the back room of his new shop for shipping will result in a net savings of £6,000 this year, he says.
