Cargill announced it is the winning bidder for the ground beef processing plant of bankruptcy-protected AFA Foods, and will pay $14.1 million for the Fort Worth, Texas, facility. According to Jefferies and AlixPartners' report "Trouble in Aisle 5," only 41% of millennials buy food at a traditional grocer, and they are more concerned with freshness and convenience than store or brand loyalty. - Book looks at dangers of drug-resistant E. coli
Maryn McKenna has written "Superbug," a book documenting the dangers of antibiotic-resistant E. coli, which appears in chickens and turkeys and appears linked to organisms that cause urinary tract infections in humans, which are becoming more prevalent.
