  • Successful sales come from concentrating on the customer's needs

  • Europe's outlook becomes more alarming, watchdog says
The European Systemic Risk Board warned of a grim economic outlook. Between the economic slowdown and the mounting debt crisis, there is not much hope for an already-weakened banking sector. The ESRB, which grew out of the global financial crisis, was set up to give early warnings about the Continent's financial picture. "A further economic slowdown and an aggravation of the sovereign-debt crisis could endanger the resilience of an already-stressed banking sector, disrupt the provision of credit to the real economy and exacerbate an already-high systemic risk," the ESRB said. First-quarter data released by American Express Global Business Travel indicate that average business-travel prices have gone up. Average domestic airfares during the first quarter of 2012 rose 6% from those in 2011, while average domestic hotel rates climbed 5% during the same period. "To optimize travel budgets in this environment, companies should look at how they are encouraging compliance with corporate travel policies with positive motivators, instead of punishments for noncompliance," said Christa Degnan Manning, a director at American Express Global Business Travel. • Facebook settles lawsuit, tweaks "Sponsored Stories" rules
Facebook is paying out $20 million and changing its user-privacy rules in order to settle a lawsuit relating to its "Sponsored Stories" ad product. Users will be more explicitly warned that by "liking" a product they are giving permission for their name and photo to be used in ads, and they will be allowed to opt out of the ads altogether. Facebook says the changes will likely cost it about $103 million in lost ad revenue.
