White House senior adviser Doug McKalip responded to an online petition seeking to legalize marketing of raw milk at the federal level. He wrote that although the FDA prohibits interstate sales, the agency "has never taken, nor does it intend to take" any action against consumers who transport unpasteurized milk out of state for personal use. The government also supports "pasteurization to protect the safety of the milk supply because the health risks associated with raw milk are well documented," McKalip added.
