Canadian consumers are often angry about having to pay higher prices than their US counterparts for the same goods, especially as the exchange rate between the countries' currencies has reached near parity, but the exchange rate is only one factor in pricing, according to a new report from Statistics Canada. "By the time you look at the final retail price, there may be a lot of Canadian content built into the final amount," said economist Avery Shenfeld. UK retail chain John Lewis saw like-for-like sales jump 6.2% in the last five weeks of 2011 and set a new one-week sales record of £133.1 million in the week before Christmas. The holiday results are in stark contrast to Next, which reported disappointing results for the season and blamed mild weather and rivals' unexpected discounting for the deeper-than-expected sales drop. Cavallier-Belletrud is credited with creating a host of designer perfumes including L'Eau d'Issey, Jean Paul Gaultier Classic and Dior Addict. Dunkin' Donuts recently opened its 10,000th store, with expansion fueled in part by rapid growth in China, where the chain now operates 80 units.
