Several US retail chains have pulled back on plans to expand their presence in Europe amid the ongoing euro-zone debt crisis. Crate & Barrel will slow its international expansion plans, Williams-Sonoma has reportedly pushed back opening dates for new London stores to 2013, and Limited Brands might delay launching its first Bath & Body Works stores in Europe. - Avirate opens first stores in India
Sri Lankan women's apparel brand Avirate has expanded to India with a store in Bangalore and plans to open at least four more in the next six months. - Coach opens online pop-up in China
Coach launched a temporary online store this week on China's Taobao Mall, a monthlong experiment aimed at offering the luxury brand insight into the shopping preferences of China's consumers. The move comes as Coach gears up to open 30 brick-and-mortar stores in China and plans to grab 10% of the luxury handbag market there by 2014. Retail giant Carrefour will file a cash tender offer to acquire France's Guyenne et Gascogne.
