- Supermarket specials don't spur higher holiday spending
The number of products on special at the UK's three major supermarket chains rose to 37% from 35% in November, but the stores didn't see a corresponding uptick in spending, according to research from Nielsen. - India opts against inviting foreign retailers
India's ruling Congress party, in the face of strong political opposition, has rescinded its decision to permit non-Indian retail companies to open locations in the country. The government will look to build "consensus" on whether to allow foreign retailers, according to finance minister Pranab Mukherjee. However, it's not known how quickly or even if the government will try again with the plan. - High-tech logistics help Sainsbury's prepare for the holidays
