- Merchants move Super Saturday up on the calendar
The Saturday before Christmas typically brings heavy discounting from merchants looking to make the most of the last-minute rush, but this year's uncertainty has many of them moving Super Saturday up a week. While Dec. 24 is technically the day, many including Macy's, Sears and J.C. Penney will launch their biggest sales tomorrow, to counter a falloff in shopping since Thanksgiving weekend. Portland, Ore.-based retailer Kitchen Kaboodle saw such big sales drops at its five stores after the recession hit that by 2009, the chain's lender was ready to call its loans.
