    A report in the journal Food Science and Food Safety says about 3,000 ingredients since the 1960s have been classified as safe without government involvement. GMA said the food industry only classifies ingredients as safe after strict testing, and GMA's Chief Science Officer Leon Bruner said, "We are completely comfortable with increasingly the transparency or the visibility of ingredients that go through the process."
