  • Old Navy tempts Hispanic fashionistas with Web novela

  • Study: Brands, not slogans, drive consumer spending
Consumers spend more when they're exposed to luxury brands such as Tiffany and Neiman Marcus and less when they see brands associated with low prices such as Kmart and Dollar Store, but exposure to slogans had the reverse effect, say Harvard researchers. Slogans have the opposite effect because consumers often see them as messages meant to deliberately persuade them to do something. • Older workers pick up more seasonal posts
Companies are hiring more 40-and 50-year-old workers for seasonal positions at places such as Party City in Paramus, N.J. Older workers who had impressive careers until the recession thrust them into long-term unemployment are more reliable and experienced than the youths that typically fill temporary jobs, companies say, and the temporary nature of the jobs leads to less resentment among workers earning a fraction of what they made when times were better.
